Their attempt at such an audacious display is to help Reece Walker, a three year old boy suffering from spastic diplegic cerebral palsy and all the money raised from the event will be handed over to the mother of the kid, Laura who plans to use the money for an operation in the United States of America. The condition is extremely rare which leaves the muscles in the legs of Reece extremely stiff, therefore, not allowing him to flex them but it is believed that the operation in America that will roughly cost £ 40,000 will change all that.

This is not for the first time that the sport of karate, one of the oldest forms of exercise has been used as a medium to help a young child. A similar kind of effort was done in India a few years back to help a young girl suffering from cancer and many more times before and after that as well.

According to the XCFL instructor of the club Danny Howard, he found about Reece for the first time when his mother Laura was raising funds in a local level and he decided to take up the issue with his students who duly agreed to go through the grueling karate program to help the child.

All this shows that humanity is not dead after all, doesn’t it?

According to the co-coordinator of the Weed and Seed program at Warren City Tina Milner, these kids are being given the opportunity to interact in a sport that they would not have been able to try otherwise and this is a very proud moment for all those involved with the Weed and Seed program.

Sean Gordon, who is heading the program, added that the kids are learning self-discipline, self-confidence as well as self-esteem thanks to the program and at the moment, they are working on how to defend themselves if someone grabbed hold of them. The leaders of the program added that the local kids get plenty of opportunity to participate in programs such as baseball, soccer and basketball but the Police Athletic League wanted the kids to branch out in some non-traditional manner and there is nothing better in that respect than karate.

This would also help the kids who do not come from the wealthiest of families to focus on their classroom activities and according to Tina Milner, they took this opportunity to help the kids suffering from ADHD to improve their grades in class and sought the aid of the local police department who readily agreed to take up the program.

A recent study also showed that the martial arts forms taekwondo and karate helped people who suffer from ADHD and that was one of the main reasons for choosing the martial arts form for the program and Sensei Gordon is also happy in being able to help these kids.
