lol, that video you mentioned is fighting the same rules, one touch point fighting…those flash knockouts shown in the video probably got them disqualified

Do you think you become a master because you learn from a master? Those, what ever the style is nothing if its not fitting you.
Don’t think you are good because you are learning same style of the champ. maybe, you are learning wrong style which not fitting you.

This is a sport, not real fighting so they are following the rules of the point system. You have to respect that. I still recommend Karate for kids to learn respect, tradition, and the sport. Of course if they wouldn’t actually fight like this against one of these guys, search for ‘Prison: Raw: Predatory Behavior, behind the scenes.

the Referee was my sensei for 7years

They waved off a lot of techniques. The Shushin and Fukushin were right there to catch the action. At least three judges have to agree. The purpose is not to score “clean” hits. In fact, in some tournaments there might have been penalty points for too much contact. Good intent, focus and correct timing are the criteria, not “clean hits.”

I’ve seen them all, friend. I can appreciate it for what it is, not what it isn’t.

  • By Stefano Vitolo, May 9, 2013 @ 5:33 pm

no solid strikes, just points marked to the oponent, you want to watch real karate solid strikes, watch a Kyokushinkai Karate match

  • By Stefano Vitolo, May 9, 2013 @ 6:27 pm

The only Shotokan karateka I know who is actually an effective fighter is called Lyoto Machida. This sportive style does not fit the requirements to win in a real fight, without points,( my humble opinion) a fight with actual hits. The best Karate is Kyokushinkai, osu.

With all due respect, NONE of the technique executed were clean. Go to Germany, Brazil, The Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, The U.S & The U.K, and you will see REAL Karate-Do Kumite with CLEAN strikes, sweeps, & throws at FULL POWER. These lads have a LONG WAY to go.

  • By GosokuRyuYodan, May 9, 2013 @ 7:32 pm

No sweeps? Were you sleeping? No solid hard strikes? Not sleeping…blind!

  • By GosokuRyuYodan, May 9, 2013 @ 8:07 pm

    GREAT match!

  • By greenawaying, May 9, 2013 @ 9:01 pm

Check my shotokan kumite out and see what you guys have to say…. Search ‘greenawaying’ you can see my world cup fights (y) feel free to bash lol

  • By AlHajjMalik01, May 9, 2013 @ 9:21 pm

Too much dancing, no use of Tai-Sabaki, and they BOTH don’t utilize the ring to it’s full potential. No sweeps, throws (let alone solid HARD strikes) not being executed either. Sad to say this, but Shoto-Kan Karate-Do is NOT what it used to be.

watch closely again, the front kicks slide up his front thigh. they do end up at the target but are nothing more than a glancing blow.

  • By InsanityComesAlive, May 9, 2013 @ 10:25 pm

LLLOOOLLLL, would pay to watch that.

  • By Lyra Crox, May 9, 2013 @ 11:16 pm

it’s not like they aren’t trying to block, karate kumite is like one shot sure kill, rather than punching and blocking each other.

  • By joeranwa, May 10, 2013 @ 12:15 am

I understand. The head kicks seems very crazy to not try to block, but with what your telling I understand better why they don’t block that much with the other techniques.

  • By Global Fugitive, May 10, 2013 @ 12:36 am

good match, i think some of those front kicks should have scored, and some of the foot sweeps should have received a warning as they were more attacks to the lower leg than a sweep.

  • By humplumper, May 10, 2013 @ 1:00 am

  • By Jace Chong, May 10, 2013 @ 1:57 am
